High-Performance Virtualization Platform based on Proxmox

Our customer is an internationally operating media company with a high demand for virtualized IT resources. The increasing number of digital workloads, combined with growing performance, storage, and scalability requirements, necessitated a powerful and highly available IT infrastructure.

The challenge was to provide a redundant high-performance platform capable of virtualizing around 200 servers for diverse applications, featuring fast NVMe storage for active workloads and large HDD storage for long-term archiving. Additionally, the solution needed to be scalable and seamlessly integrated into the customer’s existing environment.

Project Description

The goal was to implement a high-performance virtualization platform based on Proxmox, ensuring maximum compute power, storage performance, and network redundancy.

Key requirements included:

  • Virtualization of approximately 200 servers for a wide range of applications
  • High computational power for demanding workloads
  • Fast NVMe storage for active applications
  • Long-term archiving with extensive HDD storage
  • Redundant 100GBit network connectivity for maximum availability

To meet these requirements, we developed a customized server solution utilizing the latest AMD and Supermicro technology.

Project Implementation

Memorysolution delivered and integrated a three-node Proxmox cluster, consisting of:

Compute Nodes:

  • 3x Supermicro A+ Server 2125HS-TNR
  • Each equipped with 2x 64-Core AMD EPYC™ 9554 (Genoa) processors for top-tier performance
  • 1,536 GB DDR5 RAM to efficiently handle parallel workloads
  • 10x 7.68 TB NVMe storage (Samsung PM9A3) for ultra-fast data access

Storage Infrastructure:

  • Connected via Broadcom 9500-8e to 3x 44-Bay JBOD Supermicro 847E1C-R1K23JBOD
  • Total Capacity:
    • 230 TB NVMe storage for high-speed workloads
    • 1.5 PB HDD storage for long-term data archiving

Network Infrastructure:

  • Redundant 100GBit backbone network for maximum speed and failover protection

Memorysolution delivered this turnkey solution, ensuring seamless integration into the customer’s existing IT landscape. The architecture was designed to be fully scalable, allowing for effortless expansion of compute and storage resources as needed.

With the new high-performance virtualization platform, our customer achieved significant improvements in IT infrastructure efficiency:

Thanks to the customized Proxmox cluster architecture, the customer is now fully prepared for future challenges. The platform delivers high performance, scalability, and efficiency, making it an ideal solution for the dynamic demands of a global media enterprise.
